The National Organization for Women (NOW) is a feminist organization that seeks to gain full equality between women and men. They inted to do this by ending discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, justice system, and other sectors of society; secure birth control, abortion, and reproductive sites for all women; end all forms of violence against women; eliminate racism, sexism, and homophobia; and promote justice and equality in society.

Minimum Wage

Many companies and groups claim support for an increase in minimum wage in order to support working families, but this support often disguises their true intentions. Companies like Wal-mart that pay above the minimum wage, as well as union employees and workers, support an increase to minimum wage because this increase would increase the costs and therefore prices of low wage paying busines

ses. As a result, the demand for high wage paying companies increases.

There are several groups opposed to minimum wage. The Employment Policies Institute is a popular economic research center often warning that the minimum wage increase would negatively affect unemployment rate and poverty. The nonpfroit organization, however, is run by a public relations that also represents restaurant companies.

Millions of dollars will be spent on lobbying firms, nonprofit research organizations, and advertising campgains by industries like National Restaurant Association and National Retail Association.

Groups supporting the minimum wage include Center for American Progress and Economic Policy Institution.
