Presidential Leadership

Women in the Workforce

In Barack Obama's 2014 State of the Union Address, he suggested the following policies in regards to women in the workforce:
  • Women receive equal pay to men for doing the same amount of work
    • Paid maternity leave
    • Compensation for days off to care for sick children
    • A steady income always available to working mother

Minimum Wage

The President believes that no one who works fulltime should have to raise the family in poverty. But right now, a full-time minimum wage worker makes $14,500 a year--which leaves too many families struggling to make ends meet. A family of four with a minimum wage worker lives below the poverty line. That is why the President is calling on Congress to raise the Federal minimum wage for working Americans to stages to $9 in 2015 and index it to inflation thereafter.
